About Project Vík

Our world, shared with yours

We are Nordic people, and Norse and Viking history has always been part of who we are. Project Vík exists because we wanted to share that world properly – not as a costume or a caricature, but as it actually was: a real, complex, deeply human chapter of history, alongside the myths that grew around it.

Sagnavefur, the knowledge graph at the heart of Project Vík, is our attempt to map that world – people, ships, settlements, gods, sagas, battles, beliefs – as a living web of connections rather than a list of disconnected facts. Every entity you find here is meant to lead you somewhere else, the way one thread of history naturally pulls on the next.

On accuracy

We take historical accuracy seriously. Every claim in this graph is built from individually sourced material, tiered by evidence type and marked with a confidence level – established, probable, contested, saga tradition, mythology, or reconstruction – so you always know what kind of ground you're standing on.

That said, we're human, and history is vast. If you spot an error, a missing nuance, or a source we've gotten wrong, we genuinely want to hear about it. Send us a note at projectvik@thenordics.co.

On AI

We use AI to help us work efficiently – researching, drafting and organising content at a pace that wouldn't be possible otherwise. But AI never gets the final word. Every claim is checked against real sources, cross-checked across multiple models, and reviewed by human eyes before it's published. AI is a tool here, not an author.

An evergreen journey

Project Vík is not a finished product. It's a living project, and we intend to keep expanding it – new entities, new eras, new corners of the Norse world – for as long as there's more to add. Think of it less as a book and more as a saga still being told.
